Sometime Evangelism

Sometime” has long been a way for Cru to encourage students toward spiritual conversations and gospel presentations with friends! There’s a lot of material out there on the outreach, but your friendly Jersey staff team wanted to make it easy for you as we challenge and train you in how to do this! Everything you need is right on this page, and it’s as simple as A-B-C.

A - Text, email, or DM a friend this in your own words:

“Hey Friend! How are you? Hope all is well! I’m reaching out because Cru at my school is trying to do a better job listening to - and sharing with - students about beliefs on spirituality and life. Would you sometime want to get together in-person or over video chat to share with me? I’ll have a series of simple but meaningful questions for you, and then I would love the opportunity to share with you what I believe as a Christian!”

In the RARE case that your friend or classmate says no, graciously accept this and thank them for considering. In the 99.9% chance they say yes, thank them and schedule your hangout!

B - At your meeting, ask the following questions.

Below is our very own Sometime Survey. Remember, this is a chance for you to listen well, so do not argue. Mostly you will nod a lot and and many “whys,” so you can better understand why they think the way they do — even if you disagree. Click here for several other surveys related to a number of topics you can use instead of the one above!

  1. How are you doing in this time of pandemic, community unrest, virtual classes, etc?

  2. What has kept you going through everything?

  3. How important is spirituality in your life? And have your thoughts and feelings changed towards it since the start of the pandemic?

  4. What’s your perception of God?

  5. Do you think God is relevant in college students’ lives? Why or why not?

  6. Do you think it matters what we believe in as people? Please explain.

  7. How do you personally form your beliefs?

  8. Do you feel like people know the real you and what you truly believe? Why or why not?

  9. Do you feel fully satisfied with your life? If yes, why? If not, what do you think would make you feel fully satisfied in life?

  10. Christianity has a lot to say about life, what do you perceive the basic message of Christianity to be? And why?

  11. Thanks so much for all that you shared. I’d love to share some of my answers to these life questions with you through something called The Gospel which means the Good News. I’d also love to hear your thoughts on it; would I be able to share with you?

C - Transition to and share the gospel!

Once you are finished asking all the questions, thank them for sharing and ask their permission if it’s okay for you to share what you believe about life and faith and Christianity. They will certainly say yes, since you took the time to listen to them! We encourage you to use the below version of the KGP (Knowing God Personally booklet). It shares the gospel in 4 easy points! Our recommendation is for you to share your screen via video-chat, but if you can’t, just send them the direct link (https://knowgod.com/en/kgp).

Follow Up

Make sure after your meeting, you send your friend a thank you message! If they made a decision for Christ, please connect with your staff person about best next steps. If they did not, make sure you still thank them for taking the time to chat with you, but also, encourage them to browse and read ONE at least article of their liking from www.EVERYSTUDENT.com as they continue on their spiritual journey. Make sure they know you are open to further dialogue and respect whatever decision they make about Christ.
