The Christmas Prophecies

The Christmas Prophecies

PrintLet's get to it.As a Christian, I believe God created you and me to have a personal, vibrant relationship with him as our maker. Like a good father, he loves you and me with a deep supply of unconditional affection. Unfortunately, we fell off and severed our chances for fellowship with a perfectly pure and holy God by sinning. Sin is any way in which you or I break God's laws or his heart. Although God is loving, he is also perfectly just, and he cannot allow sin to go unpunished. This is where Jesus comes in. God requires us to live perfectly holy lives, knows we cannot, so he sent Jesus to live the perfect life in our place. God requires us to pay the penalty for our sin, and he sent Jesus to do this very thing on the cross where he died. Not only that, Jesus overcame death by physically rising from the grave to prove himself victorious. He now offers forgiveness of sins and a renewed relationship with God to anyone who trusts in him for salvation. This is, in my opinion, the most exciting and true reality that exists, and it is what Christmas is all about. In fact, for thousands of years before Jesus was born, the Bible records specific prophesy after prophesy detailing the events of his birth, life, death and purpose. In all, there are over 350 prophesies about Jesus. Here I've compiled some of the major ones, which show that Jesus is in fact God's solution for our sin.

1 - The Messiah Will Be Born in Bethlehem

Micah 5:2 - But you, Bethlehem, are the smallest town in Judah. Your family is almost too small to count, but the “Ruler of Israel” will come from you to rule for me. His beginnings are from ancient times, from long, long ago.

2 - The Promised Savior Will Be Born of A Virgin

Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

3 - Messiah Was Sent to Heal the Broken Hearted

Isaiah 61:1-2 - The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn.

4 - The Promised Savior Would Be Hailed King When Riding a Donkey in Jerusalem

Zechariah 9:9 - Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

5 - Messiah Would Be Silent Before His Accusers

Isaiah 53:7 - He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

6 - The Promised Savior Would Be Crucified by Soldiers Who Gamble for His Clothes

Psalm 22:16-18 - Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce[e] my hands and my feet. 17 All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. 18 They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.

7 - Messiah's Death Would Be A Sacrifice for Our Sins

Isaiah 53:5-6 - But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

8 - The Promised Savior Would Not Remain Dead

Psalm 16:10 - For You will not leave my soul among the dead or allow Your Godly One to rot in the grave._________________________Jesus is the only figure in history who fulfilled these and many other predictions about his birth, life, purpose and resurrection. This Christmas, consider that God's plan is for you not only to celebrate with family but also to celebrate in a personal relationship with him through his son, Jesus. For more on this topic, watch the video below or check out 100 Prophesies Fulfilled by Jesus or The Case for Christ, which we would happily give you for FREE if you are a college student in NJ.
