Transformational Community | Acts 2 Paraphrase
How would Acts 2:42-47 look on your college campus today?
As the Cru believers on a NJ college campus were led and empowered by the Holy Spirit, they committed themselves to bible study, to having true authentic relationships with each other, eating at the dining hall, Applebees, and many other various places, and they prayed together constantly for each other and for the campus. And the students involved in Cru and the campus as a whole were amazed because many miraculous things were happening –lives were being changed amongst this group in many ways! All of the believers were together enjoying one another and although they were different in many ways, culture, personalities, ethnicities, race – it seemed they had one thing in common—unity in the Spirit—unity in Jesus Christ. They lived sacrificially for each other, didn’t hold anything too close that they couldn’t share it with each other when someone was in need—they were different from the rest of the campus and the campus noticed! And every day in some way or another they had to see each other somewhere in the middle of campus, they would go to bible study or Cru, or prayer meetings or go out sharing, they would eat in the dining hall and in each others’ apartments—they gave and received well from each other because everyone was generous – they loved each other well and were transformed by each other and by God as they walked with Him together in the context of community. They praised God because only HE could do something like this. Everyone on campus felt blessed by their presence on campus and knew it was because of Jesus Christ. Because of that, their transformational community was so attractive and they shared willingly the good news of Jesus —the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved and the hope of Jesus was spreading like wildfire on the campus.
